Our 2009 plans and budget are based on our vision and priorities previously agreed by the Amnesty International Australia (AIA) Board.
Human Rights Impact Areas 2009 - 2011
The AIA Board meeting held on 31 May – 1 June 2008 endorsed the following selection process and criteria for developing future AIA work.
Amnesty International global requirements and parameters:
- Work within AI Integrated Strategic Plan’s seven human rights goals
- All Sections must:
- contribute to global priority campaigns
- maintain a balance between international solidarity and work on our own country
- Two techniques present in all of our work:
- a focus on individuals and their cases
- human rights education
Amnesty International Australia Criteria:
- Strategic Impact (pre-condition for all priority campaigns )
- Relevance
- Resonance
- Continuity
- Boldness
- Focus on Individuals
- Geographic Balance (global, regional, national)
- Other factors (e.g. engagement potential, opportunity to set human rights agenda)
The Board also agreed that the AIA strategy should:
- Include a mix of short and long term campaigns
- Ensure a mix of campaigns in development, focus and transition
- Grow and diversify our movement of people - empower and equip them to have impact
- Continue to develop capacity on human rights expertise, research and policy
- Incorporate national and international campaigns
