Amnesty International Australia's branch and annual general meetings are important to our democratic, member-driven organisation.

Our National Annual General Meeting (NAGM) in 2010 was held from 9 to 11 July in Hobart - read more.

Branch Annual General Meetings

As written in our Constitution, each of the seven Amnesty International branches holds a Branch Annual General Meeting (BAGM) once a year.

BAGMs are a fantastic opportunity for branches to consult with supporters about our work and governance, to share national and international developments in the movement and to discuss strategies for effective human rights activism.

National Annual General Meeting

The NAGM is the most important meeting in Amnesty International Australia's calendar, where the official business of the organisation is conducted, including the election of certain National Board positions.

Read about what's happening at NAGM 2010, which is being held in Sydney on Saturday 9 July at the Sydney Action Centre.

The NAGM Preparatory Committee is established early to prepare for the NAGM so that it is organised and run smoothly, allowing for the official business to be conducted and for interesting human rights discussions and information-sharing between activists, the Board, staff and other people interested in the development of Amnesty International Australia.

The Preparatory Committee is made up of certain official positions, including:

  • The National President or their nominee
  • The National Secretary
  • The Branch President from the host region
  • A further member from the host region chosen from the Branch Committee
  • The organiser of the youth conference
  • The Director of business and organisational development
  • A staff member who prepares the nuts and bolts development of the NAGM.

Please view updates on implementation of resolutions made at NAGM 2008. NAGM 2009 was held on on Saturday, 27 June 2009, but resolutions normally raised at NAGM were put to vote at the National Extraordinary General Meeting in November 2009.
