Speakers

A team of volunteer speakers, operating mainly in Canberra , that gives presentations on the work of Amnesty International and Human Rights.

The Speakers team can offer experienced speakers who can speak on a range of human rights issues to your work place or social group.

This year's 50th anniversary of the formation of Amnesty International is the ideal time to make more people aware of the work Amnesty does.

Our speakers are experienced Amnesty members, who are willing to share their knowledge of the organisation's work and specific campaign areas, such as refugees, the death penalty, torture and violence against women.

Talks can be as formal or informal as you wish - a morning or afternoon tea event at your workplace to coincide with a specific day such as Human Rights Day, World Refugee Day, International Women's Day etc, or a gathering of a social/church group. Speakers are also willing to address lunch or dinner engagements. As all our speakers are volunteers it is helpful to have at least a month's notice of requests.

For further details please email Clare.

Over the years, many requests for speakers have been made from schools, community groups, universities and the corporate world to talk about the work and organisation of Amnesty International. The Speakers Network operates mainly in Canberra and fulfils the important function of raising awareness of Amnesty's local, national and global roles and activities.

The Amnesty International ACT Sth NSW Speakers Network is a small team of volunteer speakers who give presentations varying from a three minute assembly talk to one-hour sessions. This need not be a large commitment for volunteer speakers, although it does require some research and keeping informed about AIA's current news and campaigns. Even if you are only free for a few hours, or on one day a week, please apply if interested; but you must be be available during weekday hours. Of particular help are those able to travel to the outer suburbs of Canberra. Due to the fluctuating availability of volunteers, new speakers are required to join the network every year.

Talks are tailored to request and the Network also has access to videos which can be shown in conjunction with talks, or they can be hired. There is no charge for the talks, but donations to Amnesty International Australia are always welcome.
