On Thursday April 24 Amnesty International will be part of a peaceful presence at the Olympic Torch Relay in Canberra. Join us in our campaign to improve human rights in China.

Monkeys, candles, a positive stance for human rights. The plan is to gather at 8am at Reconciliation Place - the start of the relay route. We'll also be present at the finish of this leg - Commonwealth Park at approximately 12:30pm. Please join us at either spot. You can contact our Community Campaigner in Canberra or our Community Campaigns Assistant in NSW. We will update plans as necessary - based on receiving further info from Police etc.

If you’re coming from Sydney:

There is a bus departing at 4:30am from the NSW Action Centre - 79 Myrtle Street, Chippendale. This bus will return to Sydney on the same day, leaving Canberra at 3:00pm.

If you’re meeting us in Canberra we will be congregating at Reconciliation Place from 8:00am.

We will be engaging in a non-violent protest against human rights abuses in China.

You won't miss the Amnesty crowd - there will be life-size yellow candles and many Nu Wa's, the campaign mascot. We look forward to seeing you there! Wear black if you can - and we'll give you some Nu Wa ears or mask!

You can call 8396 7670 to book a place on the bus from Sydney.
