I understand what you’re saying honpin and agree that there are human rights abuse all round the world. I find it difficult to support any war and can’t understand the need for any lose of life. The issues of Iraq and human rights abuse concern me. My post was focused on human rights in China only because it related to the story. When it comes to human rights “all nations are one”. “All peoples” are equal. I believe in putting myself in someone else’s shoes. Internal policies drive human rights and I believe it’s a good place to start. For the record I’m not American but that shouldn’t matter. When it comes to human rights we are all one “Nation”, we are all one “Peoples”.

The human rights of individuals are the same no matter where they might live. Every person’s right should be respected and upheld. This is not about being anti-China. You are right honpin, there are abuses taking place all over the world. This website is dedicated to the current situation in China. It was Chinese authorities who said ‘give us the Games and we will improve human rights’. This has not happened, and it is an admission by Chinese leaders that there are human rights problems to be addressed in China.

The issues of Tibet are complex. There is no simple answer. The ideas of “Our Land” (or the history of China and unity) is all about utilitarianism… which stretches throughout all nations (not just China). A country belongs to its people, its inhabitants. The idea of the utilitarian is “all about the greater good”. The problem with this is it denies our “moral duty”... I believe (in the words of Kant) we have a moral duty to protect the vulnerable. If I look at the people of Tibet then I don’t believe we are protecting the vulnerable. Tibet belongs to its people.
