The Olympics and the verdicts
With the 29th Olympics now over, it's time for the verdicts - including whether the Games have brought improvements to human rights in China?
Al Jazeera English has put out a couple of video clips summing up the Games. It says the verdict so far is mixed, with US disappointed Games didn't bring more "openness and tolerance" and the International Olympic Committee arguing it would open the country up to the world.
This second clip features the International Olympic Committee's president Jacque Rogge.

Mixed sounds like the right reaction - there certainly have been possitives to build on but some of the official press conferences could have been scripted by Monty Python. We just have to keep up the pressure - writing letters, demanding answers on political prisoners etc China has taken a step towards opening up and I’m not sure they can back away from it.
