This is how the widget looks like © Amnesty International Australia

As the media crews leave Beijing we need to keep the international spotlight on China and remind the world that there is still much change needed to progress human rights in China.

The Amnesty International China widget contains rotating cases that are part of our campaign to defend human rights in China. These include: - actions targeting major internet companies cooperating with Chinese authorities to enable censorship in China such as Yahoo, Microsoft, Google, Baidu and Sohu.

Actions in support of individuals currently imprisoned or at risk in China for exercising their human rights include:

  • Ye Guozhu: detained for attempting to protest the demolition of his home and business
  • Shi Tao: imprisoned for sending an email about the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown.
  • Yang Tongyan: pro-democracy activist and freelance writer
  • Huang Jinqiu: jailed for his ‘reactionary’ pro-democracy writings online
  • Tiananmen Mothers: persecuted for seeking justice
  • Chen Guangcheng: women’s human rights defender and legal advisor

Your widget will automatically rotate to highlight a new case every fortnight.

Visitors to your website will be able to click on the widget, go to Amnesty International Australia’s website and can take action such as sign a petition or write a letter.

This widget is censored in China – so speak up for those who are silenced and download it today!

To add the Widget to your site:

  1. Copy the html code below and add it to your site where you want the badge to appear. Make sure you copy all the code.
  2. Reload your web page after you added the code and check to see if it's working correctly.

Hayley, you are a part of this movement already. It has nothing to do with age. Having the beliefs that you seem to have, being informed, raising awareness of human rights issues with others and caring can be done in all of our daily lives, no matter who we are.
Thank you, Sophie (Campaign Coordinator - Amnesty Australia)

it would be amazing for everything wrong in this world to fade out or wither, though we can not rely on wishful thinking alone, we can always count on hope. amnesty international gives so much of that, i can not begin to speak of my respects for an organization so powerful, powerful without violence, without force and without evil ties, with goodwill, that is the sort of power the world needs. the sort of opportunity that people can raise their hands to say hey i can change that, or i can help to change that. i hope when i am old enough i can be apart of this movement, as a career, and a lifestyle.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for giving this a go. This script has been developed for html websites (as opposed to myspace or facebook profiles), but we are presently looking at developing script for facebook and possibly myspace as well. Keep posted for progress!
