China's Olympic Challenge Report
New report on press freedom in China
A new report assessing press freedom in China during 2008 has been released by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
China's Olympic Challenge: Press Freedom in 2008 details the results of a 12-month press freedom monitoring project coordinated by the IFJ Asia-Pacific from Sydney and Hong Kong, and examines the problems faced by foreign and local journalists who were reporting in China during 2008.
The challenge now is to hold China to its promise to move towards free and independent reporting by all journalists in China. It is imperative that media organisations around the world unite to maintain international scrutiny of media rights in China and to continue to encourage China's government and authorities to embrace and act on the principles of press freedom.
The report is also available on the IFJ website in both simplified and traditional Chinese.

I hope that Australia is bringing diplomatic pressure to bear in the fight against this prehistoric legislation.
