We've just launched the new campaign and to get started, we're focusing on internet censorship.
Did you know that in China reading a website like this, or passing on a link to this website - one which discusses and aims to eradicate human rights abuses - could land you in jail?
In China, the Government has the power to have you locked up and possibly tortured because you support human rights and attempt to spread the message.
Companies like Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft help the Chinese Government repress the population. These companies filter and block information that most of us take for granted.
Censoring the internet means there is no transparency, and human rights abuses can go on unchecked. We want China to increase transparency about the human rights abuses taking place there, we want them to release accurate figures on the number of people executed, to permit discusssion online and allow the Chinese people to access information about their basic human rights.
Have you heard about the journalist Shi Tao? Using his Yahoo! account, a journalist named Shi Tao sent an email to America. The Chinese Government didn't like what he said, Yahoo! helped authorities track down Shi Tao and now he's in jail for ten years. We don't think this should happen.
If people in China could share their stories, if the media could have access and if we could freely send information into China it would be a very different place. You and I would know more about the human rights abuses taking place there. Once those abuses become public knowledge, preventing them becomes much more possible.
We want to create a more transparent society - one that upholds basic human rights. Would you like to join us?
Now is the time. The world is watching.
