Refugee Casework Team internship (unpaid)- NSW
Amnesty International Australia has several exciting internship opportunities in the Refugee Casework Team (RCT) based in Sydney. Our interns play a critical role in assisting us to support asylum seekers in their applications for refugee status in Australia.
Reporting to the Casework Coordinator, you will be responsible for:
- Analysing and assessing the refugee claims made by asylum seekers against the RCT mandate
- Researching and writing Country Information reports
- Maintaining hard and soft-copy case files according to RCT policies and procedures and carrying out other administrative duties as required
- Maintaining regular face-to-face, email and telephone communication with community-based and detained asylum seekers, their representatives and relevant government and non-government stakeholders
- Providing appropriate referrals to appropriate legal, mental health, torture and trauma and general welfare services for vulnerable or distressed clients.
To be successful, you must be available a minimum of three (3) days a week (9am - 5pm) for a period of at least four (4) months. Applicants who are available 5 days a week for 4 months or more are strongly encouraged to apply.
