On Friday the 20th of November, Amnesty International Secretary General Irene Khan will be talking about the Stop Violence Against Women Campaign at a light stand up breakfast in the Supper Room, Melbourne Town Hall.
This event marks a unique opportunity to hear Irene Khan discuss Amnesty International’s core Stop Violence Against Women Campaign and in particular the National Plan of Action (NPoA) campaign in Australia.
Irene Khan is a distinguished leader in human rights advocacy who is responsible for developing and coordinating strategies to promote and protect human rights. Irene has led Amnesty International for eight years and has received several prestigious awards for work including the Sydney Peace Prize in 2006. This will be an exciting opportunity to hear from the head of the international movement and ask about her work in the international arena.
There will be a focus on putting pressure on the Victorian Government, in particular and state governments in general, to make sure the NPoA is appropriately resourced across all state ministries.
The breakfast will be open to the public as well as key women’s organisations in Victoria and Amnesty International Members. All attendees will also have the opportunity to buy copies of ‘The Unheard Truth’, Irene Khan’s latest book.
Tony Bergen (Victorian Branch Vice President) will introduce Irene Khan.
The breakfast will be held in the Supper Room in Melbourne Town Hall (located on the corner of Swanston and Collins streets) from 7.30am – 9.00 am.
This is a free event with only limited spaces available. Please RSVP vicaia@amnesty.org.au OR 94120700
