A special guest has been arranged for the next meeting of the Rights Readers Group, in the Action Centre, at 6.00PM on Thursday 18th March.
Antonio (Tony) Buti has kindly agreed to talk with us about aspects of The Stolen Generations.
Tony is the author of 'A Matter of Conscience', the biography of Sir Ronald Wilson (Bringing Them Home report), which received the Premier's prize for non fiction.
He is currently writing a book on the case of Bruce Trevorrow, a SA man who won a claim aginst the SA Govt for his unlawful removal while a baby (his advocate was Julian Burnside, whose book 'Watching Brief' we have discussed). Tony is currently a lecturer in law at UWA and previously worked with the WA Aboriginal Legal Service.
Tony will discuss 'the history wars' (the debate over the Stolen Generations) and the question of compensation, and explain the Trevorrow case.
Suggested reading is Robert Manne's article in the February edition of The Monthly.
Those with internet access may also be interested to browse through [The Stolen Generations].
Members and non members are welcome to attend - pre reading not essential.

I hope that Australia is bringing diplomatic pressure to bear in the fight against this prehistoric legislation.
