The Townsville Group are holding a free movie night on 25 March 2010 to commemorate The International Day of Rememberance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Musician, Justin Dillon, co-director and originator of the film, is touring Russia where he meets a young female interpreter who tells Justin about a job offer she had receives from the United States. After talking with the young woman it becomes clear to Justin that she is bound for exploitation.
'CALL + RESPONSE' is a 'rockumentary' which records Justin's education about modern day slavery, which he share's with the musical world that he moves in. CALL+RESPONSE uncovers the slave industries from around the world which enslaves an estimated 27 million people today - more people experience slavery now than at any other time, many of them are children.
The film includes expert commentary from Cornel West, Madeleine Albright, Daryl Hannah, Julia Ormond, Ashley Judd, Nicholas Kristof among others.
CALL + RESPONSE also has a fantastic musical line up, icluding Moby, Natasha Bedingfield, Cold War Kids, Matisyahu, Imogen Heap, Talib Kweli, Five For Fighting, Switchfoot, members of Nickel Creek and Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers and Rocco Deluca.
After the film discussions will also be held about what you can do to help.
Fair trade tea and coffee will be served.

I hope that Australia is bringing diplomatic pressure to bear in the fight against this prehistoric legislation.
