In recent years, growing attention within the transnational community has been given to the issues affecting queer people. Since the signing of the Declaration of Montreal (2006), an international community of queer activists have given voice to concerns of a global nature affecting them and similiar persons around the world. This declaration recognises a diversity of issues including marginalisation and vulnerabilities of queer minorities; civil liberties; HIV; health and development; asylum, migration, and refugees; and a general intransigence by international organisations to recognise queer people.

Queer Symposium is a day-long event that will bring together a number of activists, academics and advocates to speak on the aforementioned issues in a series of plenaries. The purpose of this symposium is to increase collaboration of knowledge-bases and to provide a space to network amongst these people.

About the host: Angelus Morningstar

Angelus is conducting a Masters of Jurisprudence at the University of Sydney. As an advocate, he promotes pluralistic and culturally aware strategies of emancipation and development, founded in scholarly discipline and achieved through collaboration and partnerships with existing NGOs and state initiatives.
