We invite you to come along to a public forum on asylum seekers and human rights. The forum will be held in Ipswich on Tuesday 12 July 2011. The forum will discuss the current myths surrounding the asylum seeker debate and how we can create change within our local communities.

Discussion will focus on 3 main facts:

  1. It is legal under Australian law to seek asylum.

  2. More than 90 per cent of asylum seekers who arrive in Australia by boat are recognised as genuine refugees fleeing severe persecution.

  3. The number of asylum seekers arriving here by boat is very small; only 1 per cent of out total annual migration intake.

Speakers include Shayne Neumann MP, Ursula Monsiegneur from the Queensland Greens, Peter Arndt and David Forde of Amnesty International.

We would love to see you there.
