Iranian web editor and women’s rights defender released
We campaigned to the Iranian authorities to free journalist and women's rights defender Maryam Hosseinkhah, who was arrested on 18 November 2007 for publishing articles online promoting women's human and political rights in Iran. We welcome the great news that she is now released. Thanks to everyone who took action to release Maryam. Please take further action by calling on the head of the Iranian judiciary for all charges to be dropped against Maryam.
Jenni Williams and WOZA: determined to be free
Jenni Williams, national coordinator of Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA), spoke to Amnesty International staff during a visit to London in September 2007 and asked us to join her in making an L- shape with our hand. WOZA members often use this 'Love Spear' symbol - 'When we hold up our hands like this we're showing what is in our hearts, which is love for our country'.
