Serbia and Montenegro: Stop attacks on human rights activists
Human rights activists and independent journalists in Serbia are increasingly threatened and even physically attacked in an attempt to silence debate about past atrocities, Amnesty International said today in a new report. Their premises are covered with offensive graffiti and they are threatened with legal action or the opening of what appear to be malicious prosecutions.

Morocco/Western Sahara: Human rights defenders on trial
Amnesty International announced today that it is sending a delegate to observe the trial this week of seven human rights defenders from Western Sahara who the organization believes may be prisoners of conscience. They are standing trial together with seven other accused who are being prosecuted for participating in demonstrations against Moroccan rule.
Slovenia: The ‘erased’ - UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights urges the authorities
Amnesty International today called on the Slovenian authorities to immediately implement the recommendations of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (Committee) which were issued on 25 November 2005, after the Committee considered Slovenia's initial report on measures to give effect to the rights enshrined in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

Georgia: Torture and ill-treatment two years after the “Rose Revolution”
Amnesty International continues to receive reports about torture and ill-treatment in Georgia. Many cases still do not come to light because police cover up their crimes and detainees are often afraid to complain or identify the perpetrators for fear of repercussions. Uganda: Attack on the Independence of the Courts
Intervention by heavily armed security agents on the premises of the High Court in Kampala on 16 November 2005, led to the return to jail of 14 suspects of an armed group despite the ruling by the High Court Judge to grant bail. This was an attack on the rule of law and international human rights standards, Amnesty International and the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) said today.
