Death of Indigenous man while in custody is a tragedy

Amnesty International is shocked at the death of an Indigenous man over the weekend whilst allegedly in the custody of contractors for the Department of Corrective Services, which is a tragedy for his family and his community.

Amnesty International Australia is disappointed Australia was one of four countries which did not support the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples overnight. The adoption is a welcome step forward and AIA now calls on the Australian Government to work within the framework to address indigenous human rights abuses.
