Sami Al Hajj, the 39-year-old Sudanese Al Jazeera cameraman who had been held in US custody since December 2001, has finally been transferred back to Sudan from Guantanamo.

He will be reunited with his wife and son after more than 6 years of detention. No charges have ever been laid against him during this time.

The Pentagon has not confirmed his release, however his civilian lawyer has made a statement welcoming this development.

For several years Sami has been the subject of Amnesty International's campaign in countering terror with justice.

Thanks to everyone who took action for Sami's release!
