Death of Indigenous man while in custody is a tragedy

31 January 2008, 04:25PM

Amnesty International is shocked at the death of an Indigenous man over the weekend whilst allegedly in the custody of contractors for the Department of Corrective Services, which is a tragedy for his family and his community.

We urge the Commonwealth, States and Territories to ensure that the recommendations made in the 1991 Royal Commission Into Aboriginal Deaths In Custody are being comprehensively implemented and adhered to in order to prevent further tragedies.
