About Amnesty International NSW

  • Published on 6/11/2009

Amnesty International Australia (AIA) NSW aims to harness the skills, energy and passion of people in our region to work together in defending and protecting human rights.

The NSW Branch Committee is responsible for leading and planning for the branch, and provides support and motivation to NSW members.

In NSW there are thousands of AIA supporters working in different ways to defend human rights. There are local groups throughout regional NSW, who meet regularly, organise events and campaign on human rights in their local areas. There are also numerous issue based networks which campaign on issues such as ‘Stop violence against women’ and the 'death penalty'. Various teams also have a vital role in the work of Amnesty, such as the website team, the communications team and the Outreach team.

Last but not least our wonderful volunteers within the action centre contribute to the ongoing work that we do.

Whether you want to join one of our action groups or networks, volunteer at events or help us out at the Amnesty action centre, there are many ways in which you can get join us at Amnesty International in NSW.

The Action Centre

For AIA groups and networks the Action Centre is also a resource for holding meetings and events, distributing campaign material and office support.

How to get to the Action Centre

We're located at Level 1, 79 Myrtle Street, Chippendale. We're not far from Broadway and Central Railway Station. The nearest cross street is Abercrombie Street. View the Action Centre's location on Google maps.

Public Transport

The closest railway station is Central. From Central walk 2 - 3 blocks along Broadway to Abercrombie Street, then 4 blocks along to Myrtle Street on the right hand side. Or catch one of the many buses from Railway Square, but make sure that it is going along Broadway in the direction of Sydney University. You need the second stop, and Abercrombie Street is the first left after you get off.

Is this the main office for all amnesty international affairs in Australia? Do you have smaller satellite offices?
