Mardi Gras Fair Day was held last Sunday 15 February. In spite of the wet, there was a big turnout. Hundreds of people visited the LGBTQ Network stall, which looked fantastic, if we don't say so ourselves.
It was good to see hundreds of people signing in support of our Urgent Action letters. The letters, covering a number of cases around the globe, included the 'Same Gender Marriage (Prohibition) Bill' in Nigeria and a tear gas attack on an HIV prevention event, 'Our Gay Beauty' in the Honduras.
Lizzi, our charismatic convenor, gave a brief speech in the afternoon exhorting the community to fight the good fight against LGBTQ human rights abuses. Heaps of people came up to Lizzi afterwards asking about Amnesty and many more signed letters.
Fair Day is a prelude to the the Mardi Gras, of course, and pleasingly many people signed up to march with us, in support of human rights, in the Mardi Gras Parade. We look forward to seeing you there.
