Three speakers led the discussion which examined the need for a continued awareness of the plight of the remaining detainees and the continuing legal implications for those currently detained and those who have been released. The main point that was highlighted was that although President Obama had announced the closure of Guantanamo Bay, many issues around continued illegal detention, rendition, torture, ill-treatment and abuse, remain a concern.
Amnesty International has set a checkilist for President Obama's first 100 days in office. This included the closure of Gunatanamo Bay and to restore justice to those whose lives have been affected by the 'War on Terror'.
