Submissions, submissions, submissions

Amnesty International Australia recently lodged its human rights act submission to the government’s Human Rights Consultation. Amnesty also submitted over 10,000 human rights act submissions that were collected from our members and supporters over the last year. National Branch President, Nicole Bieske, formally handed over the submissions to National Human Rights Consultation committee member, Mary Kostakidis, on 13 June, while the final online submissions closed on 15 June. Amnesty International Australia’s submissions from our members and supporters made up a third of the overall submissions. The overwhelming response, across the country, indicates the importance of a human rights act to Australians.

The next step in the Human Rights Act journey involving the committee, will be the public hearings in Canberra from 1 to 3 July as well as the ongoing online consultation that closes on 26 June.
