Throughout the week starting Monday 8 March, Amnesty International NSW will be running and promoting various events in celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2010. International Women’s Day provides an annual opportunity to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women around the world and inspire even greater progress in the future.
In 2010 many IWD events will centre on the theme of ‘Equal rights, equal opportunities: Progress for all’. Not only does this theme encourage us to continually examine the state of women’s rights around the world but provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the great contributions made by women in the area of human rights and development.
Amnesty International and International Women’s Development Agency (IWDA) will be celebrating this symbolic occasion by hosting the ‘Women’s Eye on Peace’ photography exhibition at TAP Gallery, Darlinghurst from Monday 8 March to Sunday 14 March. The exhibition, showcasing photographs taken by women around the world, will be opened on Wednesday 11 March at a special event with guest speakers from both Amnesty and IWDA and refreshments for all. We encourage all to celebrate with us at this exhibition!
Many organisations around NSW will be holding events to celebrate International Women’s Day and we encourage you to consider joining the celebrations! A great selection of events can be found at UNIFEM’s International Women’s Day website.
