2008 marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. How has international law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights impacted on poverty? Are protocols addressing economic, social and cultural rights effective? Has Australia failed to uphold Indigenous justice, workers' rights, and Indigenous self-determination? In 2006, an estimated 2.21 million Australians lived below the poverty line (defined as 50 percent of the median disposable income for all Australian households). Indigenous Australians continue to live in dire disadvantage with a life expectancy 20 years lower than other Australians.

Learn more about the Amnesty International Dignity Campaign and a rights-based approach to poverty.

No RSVP necessary and all are welcome to what will prove an enlightening and rigorous discussion. The event is run by Amnesty International UNSW in conjunction with Amnesty International Australia NSW and the Social Justice Project.
