NSW Reconciliation Council is inviting everyone to celebrate Reconciliation Week 2009 by coming along to a free concert and borrowing a 'Living Book' from their Living Library. Both events are in Martin Place in the CBD. The concert runs from 12 to 2pm and features performances by the Jannawi Dancers, Nadeena Dixon, Krista Pav and hip-hop artists Last Kinection. There will also be a smoking ceremony by Uncle Max Eulo and guest speakers include students from 'Young Mob'. The MC will be Rhianna Patrick from local ABC Radio's 'Speaking Out' and the welcome speech will be given by Rob Welsh, chairperson of the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council.
The Living Library will allow Indigenous and non-Indigenous 'living books' to be 'borrowed' by members of the public for a 10-15 minute conversation about reconciliation from 10am-3pm.
There will also be an art display from South Sydney Youth Services, and information on the work of NSWRC and local reconciliation groups. For more information about this event or Reconciliation Week, please visit www.nswrecon.com or email nswrc@daa.nsw.gov.au.
