"G78 will not be evicted" signboard
On Saturday July 18 at Manly Village Markets we will be holding a stall to highlight the plight of a community of Cambodian people: Group 78. Group 78 are threatened with the forced eviction from their homes of many years, in order to make way for urban redevelopment.
The families are being offered little or no compensation, or offered relocation to remote and poorly serviced areas. Many Cambodians have already been evicted from their home, sometimes at night in poor weather and have been left homeless, and lost their land which they depended on for a livelihood and to feed themselves. For more information, watch the video on the Dateline SBS website.
Come and have a chat with our team and do your bit by signing a letter of petition to the Cambodian Government protesting the forced evictions, which are illegal and in breach of international human rights covenants. This petition will join hundreds of others, sent to Cambodia to put pressure on the Government to stop the evictions.
Look forward to seeing you at the stall.
(If you can't make the stall and haven't taken action yet you can send an email calling on Australia to speak up on forced evictions online right now.)
