The Avalon group of AIA are pleased to invite you to another 'Loosely Woven' concert. This fabulous music group, and its leader, Wayne Richmond, generously donate their time and talent towards musical events to help us raise funds for Amnesty's work defending human rights.
Please come, if you can, and bring some friends too. It will be a free concert but we will suggest donations to Amnesty. This concert is named 'The Colour of Prudence' and will celebrate the birth of a baby daughter to one of the group's musicians, Maria. It will be an acoustic concert with 14 musicians and singers, including stars Tully and Chris Wheeler. There will be many beautiful songs to lift your spirits. A feature of this concert is the wonderful range of instruments and we know you will enjoy this music.
The Avalon Group will have letters for supporters of AIA to sign, as well as news about current campaigns. A particular focus will be raising awareness for AIA's campaign seeking justice for up to 200,000 women who were held by the Japanese military in sexual slavery during World War II, known as 'Comfort Women'.
In addition, we are also keen to work on the new Indigenous Rights campaign and the push for a Human Rights Act for Australia.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Kath Moody (9918 2502) or Avalon group convenor Gerd Hollander (9918 6386) for more information. Don't forget, too, that all are welcome at our meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of the month in the Avalon Baptist Church office, 2 George Street, Avalon - next meeting July 14!
