Join Associate Professor Sean Turnell and Alison Tate this Saturday at a public forum to discuss Australia’s role in supporting peace, democracy and freedom in Burma and explore avenues that the ALP can take to assist urgently needed change.
Associate Professor Sean Turnell, a former senior analyst at the Reserve Bank of Australia, is co-founder and editor of Burma Economic Watch (BEW), a periodical that aims to provide up-to-date and reliable data, analysis and commentary on the economy of Burma. Sean has served as an advisor and consultant on Burma to a number of government departments, agencies, and NGOs around the world, testifying on Burma’s economy in 2006 and 2009 before the US Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Sean is based at the Economics Department of Macquarie University, Sydney and has recently published a book on Burma’s monetary and financial history entitled ‘Fiery Dragons: Banks, Moneylenders and Microfinance in Burma’.
