Come to the NSW action centre at 6pm on Thursday 27 to give your views on what Amnesty International Australia should look like in the future, and discuss the options and changes our Governance Committee has developed from your input in to Phase 1 of our Strengthening Democracy project.
The outcomes of this and other consultations occurring nationally will be used to decide the response to these proposals at November's Extraordinary General Meeting.
Please take part in these consultations so we can include your views and input in making these decisions.
Read the full set of options being proposed (and start giving your responses). If you can't attend or want a head start on the options which have been put forward this is a great place to start.
Background
In 2008 the National Executive Committee (NEC – also referred to as the board) made a commitment to strengthening democracy within Amnesty International Australia. This project is complementary to but independent of work on strengthening the democracy of Amnesty International at the international level.
The board gave responsibility and authority to the Governance Committee to undertake this strengthening democracy project, under the general oversight of the board. The Governance Committee, a subcommittee of the NEC, is chaired by the Secretary of AIA and has seven other members, four of whom are also on the board.
The board asked the Governance Committee to manage the timeline for its work, in order to bring proposals for strengthening democracy to an Extraordinary General Meeting of AIA in November 2009.
