Gas well burning from oil exploration, Niger Delta
Every person, everywhere in the world, has a basic right to an adequate standard of living: the right to food, water, housing, health and education.
Come along and show your support for this fundamental principle at the heart of Amnesty’s Demand Dignity campaign, by visiting the NSW Demand Dignity Network stall at Marrickville Organic Markets this Sunday.
The stall will focus on spreading awareness of the human rights issues facing Nigerians living in the oil producing areas of the Niger Delta, who are forced daily to drink, cook with and wash in oil polluted water.
Oil spills, waste dumping and gas flaring are endemic in Niger Delta. The air reeks of petrol and communities complain of breathing problems, skin lesions and other health problems.
Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has significantly failed to abide by international standards relating to oil industry operations, the environment and human rights, with the Nigerian Government turning a blind eye to the dire situation.
The Demand Dignity stall will provide the public with the opportunity to call on Shell’s Chief Executive, Mr. Peter Voser, to make a public commitment to cleaning up Shell’s operations in the Niger Delta.
We hope to see you there.
Tell Shell to come clean in the Niger Delta .
