Balmain and Rozelle

Balmain Local Group
Our main activity is a monthly letter-writing stall at a local market. This is an opportunity to talk with local people about issues raised by Amnesty and suggest ways of taking action.
What we do:
Our main activity is a monthly letter-writing stall at a local market. This is an opportunity to talk with local people about issues raised by Amnesty and suggest ways of taking action. The stall is also an ideal setting to publicise more urgent cases and to assist in their plights. We prepare letters on various concerns, for people to read and sign.
When we do it:
We hold monthly meetings to discuss Amnesty issues, organise the stall and plan larger events. In recent years, we have staged a forum concerning Myanmar (Burma), held a picnic for refugees and hosted a dinner by the harbour. We also invite specialist speakers to open meetings, which we publicise locally.
Who’s Who:
The group currently includes members of the Refugee, and Human Rights & Security Networks who keep everyone up to date with their news. We have a number of school teachers involved who are developing ways of raising awareness of human rights with children. The group is made up of various professionals, retirees and students.
Come Along:
If you are interested, get in touch and come along!
