Stop Violence Against Women Network
SVAW hand sign
The Stop Violence Against Women campaign was created to work towards eliminating all forms of violence against women, both in Australia and internationally.
The Network was formed by a group of individuals who felt passionately about the issue and wanted to work together to stop violence against women.
Violence against women is a fundamental human rights abuse The campaign seeks to address such abuses through increasing public awareness and lobbying governments. A great deal of progress has already been made in a number of areas, but violence against women is still significant and far-reaching. In recent years the SVAW network has campaigned around:
- an Australian National Plan of Action to Eliminate Violence Against Women
- domestic workers in Indonesia
- sex trafficking
- women in Darfur
- supporting a range of international women’s activists in their own campaigns.
Aims
Our aims are to:
- raise public awareness and mobilise the Australian public to eliminate violence against women through various events and actions
- educate and provide information about policies and practices regarding violence against women both in Australia and abroad
- work with other women’s organisations in Australia and internationally to call for the elimination of violence against women.
