NSW Demand Dignity Network
We exists to bring together like-minded people who have a passion for seeing basic human rights for all upheld.
Demand Dignity Campaign
Every person, everywhere in the world, has a basic right to an adequate standard of living – the right to food, water, housing, health and education.
It is the combined abuse of civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights that drives and deepens poverty.
Amnesty International’s Demand Dignity campaign aims to end global poverty by strengthening recognition and protection of the rights of the poor. The campaign will demand the leadership, accountability and transparency that is essential to end the human rights violations that keep people poor.
Purpose
By demanding dignity we are demanding that all states adopt and implement the laws, policies and practices that will end deprivation, insecurity, exclusion, and voicelessness.
The global campaign focuses on three main issues:
- slums
- end forced evictions
- improving life in slums
- maternal mortality and
- equal access for all women to emergency obstetric services
- political, legal, practical and local accountability
- corporate accountability
- global rules on corporate accountability for human rights
- human rights safeguards and transparency measures in extractive industries.
NSW Campaign Team
The NSW Demand Dignity Campaign members are part of the NSW Branch of Amnesty International Australia. We are a group of activists working to promote the Demand Dignity Campaign and its main issues. We aim to do this by informing others of the issues, and educating about what can be done to overcome this. This may be through public forums, information sessions, lobbying of government and corporate decision makers or online campaigns and blogging.
