Defend human rights - become an Amnesty International volunteer

The Brisbane Action Centre is currently seeking volunteers for the following positions:
Stop Violence Against Women (SVAW) campaign assistant

We will be having a volunteer information session 5 June and a volunteer training day 12 June.
Trainer
We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to help develop and implement a training program to maximize the potential of our human rights activists.
Responsibilities:
- commitment to defending human rights
- organised and reliable
- sense of humour and a positive attitude.
Qualifications (not essential):
- experience in training and developing training programs
- understanding the needs of volunteers
- experience in campaigning and event management.
Benefits:

- deeper understanding of Human Rights issues and the work of Amnesty International
- experience assessing, developing, and implementing training modules for a non-profit organisation.
Time commitment:
Approximately 4 hours per week negotiable over a 6 month period is preferred but we are very flexible.
Graphic designer
Responsibilities:
- liaise with community campaigner
- design print material keeping with Amnesty International style
- prepare comprehensive layouts of the design using photography, illustration and computer-generated imagery
- help with other designs for website and Facebook
- possibly design materials for exhibition or advertising
Qualifications:
- multimedia background necessary but students are welcome to apply
- friendly demeanour
- capacity to take initiative
- good sense of humour is also looked highly upon.
Time commitment:
A minimum commitment of 4 hours per week over a 6 month period is preferred but we are very flexible.
Online multimedia coordinator
Amnesty International is an organization that relies on the active participation of its members and volunteers to achieve its goals. Your role will be to assist in promoting the AIA profile in the community.
Responsibilities:
- integrate multimedia components with Ning site built to educate activists about Demand Dignity Campaign
- work with Activist Training Coordinator to ensure goals and messages for the campaign are clearly articulated
- first phase of project needs to be completed by 1 July
Qualifications:
- multimedia background necessary, including slideshows, video, audio and/or e-books
- amiliarity with social networking sites, especially Ning
- interest in promoting human rights
- friendly demeanour, capacity to take initiative
- good sense of humour is also looked highly upon.

Outreach networker
Amnesty International is an organization that relies on the active participation of its members and volunteers to achieve its goals. The QLD/NNSW Outreach Network engages the community and asks people to take action to protect and further human rights. The network can engage the general public in a variety of mediums include by street stalls, petitions, local events or creative activism.
Responsibilities:
- participate in outreach campaign activities
- asking the public to take action on human rights
- holding a working knowledge of Amnesty International campaigns.
Qualifications:
- good communications skills
- reliability and punctuality
- bility to effective represent the organisation in the public.

Receptionist
Amnesty International Australia is looking for a motivated and passionate individual to help with administrative tasks and reception.
Responsibilities:
- answering phone calls
- handling enquiries
- taking accurate messages
- mail processing
- data entry and other admin work as required
- team worker
- polite, enthusiasm, sense of humour, reliable
- commitment to Human Rights
Qualifications:
- good phone skills
- basic office skills
- basic computer skills
- use of initiative when screening calls.

Time commitment:
A minimum commitment of 4 hours per week over a 6 month period is preferred. Afternoon shifts (12.45pm-4pm) on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
School group networker
Communicate with teachers and students, visit schools, inform on human rights and work of Amnesty International.

SVAW campaign assistant
An enthusiastic and passionate person is needed to help organise and participate in events and activities in relation to the SVAW campaign conducted in QLD/NNSW.
