On the 14 May 2011Amnesty International Queensland and Northern New South Wales celebrated their Branch Annual General Meeting (BAGM) at the Kurilpa Hall to speak about our Branch's achievements during 2010 and vote in the new 2011 committee.
Members from the different action groups attended the event, including Townsville, Chapel Hill, Cairns, Gold Coast, Chermside, among others, to share there experiences and discuss plans for the future.
The issues discussed during BAGM were member recruitment and the financial updates for our Branch. Some of the big changes of 2010 include the use of TV advertising to promote the Rethink Refugees campaign and the increase in international funding.
Tracey Foley, Community Campaigner of our Branch, gave a presentation of the Rethink Refugees campaign to the members with updated information about the new policy the Government will establish. For more information, visit the Rethink Refugees website.
Afterwards during a action group session, the members spoke about their successes and new opportunities for groups to extend their influence. Finally, the members enjoyed a dinner to celebrate the Branch’s successes during 2010.
Congratulations to the new Branch committee! Thanks to all of our members for defending Human Rights across Australia and the world.
