Chermside

The Chermside group focuses on particular countries that have human rights abuses and supports the Stop Violence Against Women Campaign.

The Chermside group holds many letter writing stalls at local markets and shopping centres. Each year they focus on particular locations that have human rights abuses (China in 2008, Africa in 2009) and send letters to government officials.

Past events:

  • China Information day at a local Chinese restaurant (public was invited via letter box drop and area displays)
  • held a stall at the local shopping centre informing the public on human rights abuses around the world
  • letter writing campaign at a local markets for a woman in Yemen sentenced to death.

Plans for 2009:

  • get local high school children involved with our campaigns
  • assist the local refugee centre
  • hold an information stall at a local shopping centre about the SVAW campaign. .

Meetings:

Last Monday of the month at 7:00 pm
Chermside Library It's after hours, so knock or ring the bell to be let in.
