The South Australian community organisations that successfully organised Community Water Summit on the 14th March 2009 and Maude Barlow's visit to Adelaide on the 4th April 2009 are launching themselves as the Water Action Coalition (WAC). The WAC movement will be formally launched on July 19th at the Salisbury WaterShed Function Centre by the committee of WAC and by representatives of their supporting organisations.
WAC is a broadly-based movement of South Australian Community Groups and Environmental Organisations that has been formed in response to growing public concern. Its aim is simply to persuade governments to respond to community concerns with well considered measures.
Richard Watson will be MC for the day. John Caldecott President of Friends of Gulf St Vincent and Convenor of the WAC committee will give an introduction to WAC and acknowledge those organisations who are actively supporting the WAC movement. John will introduce and acknowledge members of the Honorary Reference Group who will be asked to give short statements of support.
Members of this group include Colin Pitman (Water Conservation), Dr Scoresby Shepherd AO (Gulf Waters Marine Ecology), Hallett Shueard (River Murray), Tom Trevorrow (Ngarrindjeri Elder), Professor Diane Bell Lower Lakes and Professor Fran Baum PhD (Human Health & Wellbeing).
Jim Douglas President of Western Adelaide Coastal Residents Association will officially release WAC's Charter and cover the principles behind the charter. Jim will also introduce a message of support from WAC's Patron Maude Barlow (International Water Adviser).
Opportunities for sponsorship of aspects of the WAC Launch event are still available, please contact the Convenor.
