The introduction of the National Plan by the Ecuadorian Government demonstrates there is an understanding of the importance of protecting women from all forms of violence. This will be is a tangible way of emphasising that violence against women needs to be acknowledged and addressed.

The focus of the National Plan includes shifting discriminatory socio-cultural patterns through recognition. This includes raising campaigns and programs, in relation to gender-based violence.

Under the National Plan, a national registry of cases of violence will be established to collect and analyse the data surrounding violence against women. A comprehensive protection system for women, children and adolescents who have experienced violence, is also a component. Women will finally have access to cost-free and timely justice.
