Vale Roz Houston

  • Published on 14/05/2010

Roz Houston died yesterday in Burnie (She had hoped for heart lung transplant but could not gain enough weight for it). She died peacefully with a friend at her side.

She was a student at Community Services 2000-2001-on placement at the Global Learning Centre where she did terrific work organising Human Rights Week events etc.

She was a human rights champion, taking a case of discrimination at personal cost to her through the Office of Anti Discrimination Commissioner. She also helped set up 'Working it Out' and set up forums to look at children's rights.

The Human Rights Week Organising Committee gave her a Tasmanian Award for Humanitarian Activities in Dec 2001.

Roz was a amazing advocate for transgender rights in Tasmania and will be missed.
