Amnesty International will join forces with Equal Love, the nationwide campaign for same-sex marriage in Australia, to call for the Australian Government to remove all discrimination from the Marriage Act (1961) on the basis of sexuality and gender identity and to permit marriage regardless of sex, sexuality or gender identity.
In Melbourne, supporters will join a rally at 1pm in Federation Square on 1 August, then march to the marriage registry office on Spring Street. There, a number of couples will stage a symbolic wedding ceremony to highlight the inequalities in Australian civil marriage law.
