The South Eastern Local Group of Amnesty International Australia invites you to hear guest speaker Dr Nouria Salehi. Issues she will address include:

  • Living as a women in Afghanistan today

  • Afghan women in refugee camps

  • Gaining refugee status: why is it so much harder for women than men?

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Born in Afghanistan, Dr Nouria Salehi came to live in Australia in 1981. Here in Melbourne she is a senior research biophysicist and successful restaurateur, but is best known for her remarkable humanitarian efforts and achievements, not least as a leading advocate for refugees. In Afghanistan also, many are benefiting from the work of one of the organisations Dr Salehi founded and directs, Australian Afghanistan Development Organisation. Many Afghans, especially women, orphaned street youths and rural communities, are able to make life-changing choices through the education programmes AADO provides - from basic literacy to vocational training,
