More about Inner South Group
We are currently working on the Case File of two political prisoners in Burma: Myo Min Zaw and Ko Aye Aung.
We regularly have updates about the current situation in Burma and have speakers and info nights about the country as well as working on the specific cases of the two prisoners.
The group has also decided to focus campaigning on Refugee rights and Indigenous rights
Activities carried out in 2011 include:
- A regular stall on the last Sunday of every month at Camberwell Sunday Market.-- Please come along and say hello.
- Solidarity work with community groups in the Inner South area, eg Burmese groups, Reconciliation groups, Refugee groups
- Candle Day activities in May
- The annual letter writing event in June/July.
- At least one speaker event on one of our campaigns.
- Regular campaigning, updates and actions on the human rights situation in Burma (specifically our two prisoners).
- And ... social events!.

Guest Speaker MYINT MYINT SAN spoke about her experiences as a Burmese refugee and her views about the government of Burma (Myanmar). Thanks to all who participated - many letters, postcards and petitions were signed, appealing on behalf of prisoners of conscience in Burma, women facing execution in Yemen, Iran and Saudi Arabia, political prisoners in Nth Korea...

  • CANDLE DAY 2011 and AMNESTY'S 50th ANNIVERSARY over the last weekend in May
    *Thank you to the many people who gave so generously to our group representatives in the Stonnington area, and who signed petitions on behalf of Asylum Seekers.
    *On Saturday night, we joined with many friends of Amnesty at our "TASTE OF FREEDOM" DINNER at the Rosina Room Abbotsford Convent, for a very happy celebration of 50 years of Amnesty International.
    *On Sunday morning we held our monthly Stall at the Camberwell Market.
