Religious Network (Vic)
Amnesty International Australia has a Religious Network open to people of all faith traditions who are willing to work for the defence and promotion of basic human rights worldwide. Obviously the right to freely practice your faith is a human right.
Members of the Religious Network participate in one or more of the following activities:
1. Members communicate with representatives of a State by letter and/or email and/or fax on appeal cases known as Urgent Actions (UAs) that come from the International Secretariat in the UK. Most members undertake this on a monthly basis.
2. Members use a Prayer List, prepared by the Co-ordinator on a monthly basis, to pray for and on behalf of, victims of human rights abuses. Some use the Prayer List in the corporate worship of the Faith Community.
3. The promotion of human rights within faith communities in many ways, including the production of a regular newsletter and visiting speakers.
New members of the Religious Network are always welcome and they choose the level of involvement that suits them and in which areas they will participate.
Whilst Amnesty International is independent of any government, political faction, ideology or religious creed, its mandate is entirely consistent with important teachings from all major Faith Traditions.
