The world is watching!
It's not just us folks here at Amnesty International Australia who are concerned that Australia does not have any formal, statutory human rights protection.
In a recent report (2 April 2009), the United Nations Human Rights Committee commented several times on Australia's failure to adopt federal human rights legislation.
The Committee expressed concern that the rights protected under the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights, to which Australia is a signatory, have not been incorporated into domestic law. In particular, the Committee was concerned that the right to equality and non-discrimination are not comprehensively protected in Australia.
The Australian Government is yet to formally respond to the Committee's views. In the meantime, why not tell the Government what you think by making a submission to the Human Rights Consultation?

I hope that Australia is bringing diplomatic pressure to bear in the fight against this prehistoric legislation.
