support of a Human Rights Act for Australia at Homebake Festival 2008

Hello again to every Human Rights Defender.

We hit the 6000 this week. That is how many submissions we received from you guys to support our campaign for a human rights protection in Australia! What an awesome contribution from you.

We are still in the process of entering and analysing the massive amount of data. Going through all the forms gives me the opportunity to read the statements and comments of Australians from all around the country, may they live in deserted areas or metropolises, in the outback or on the ocean. This is a very interesting experience for me and I thought it would be the same for you, so I decided to share the most moving and thoughtful statements with you. Some might be controversial and straightforward and do not always represent your or my opinion, but in my point of view the comments that make you thinking are the most interesting to read. They tell you a lot about your own standpoint and stimulate discussions as they inspire and animate your thoughts. So don't be offended by reading following comments and open your mind to what Australians have to say. Here are a few quotes that deal with and encourage more equality and solidarity in society.

  • Each human is born equal; class, race, education cannot dictate a person's potential. - William, 18 (TAS)

  • Solidarity: as a basis of any community, the one means of achieving equality + peace is through the breakdown of difference. All respecting. We're a global community. - Blake, 21 (NSW)

  • Everyone should feel at home in our country. - Emily, 20 (NSW)

  • All human are equal and they all should be treated equally; ethnicity comes after humanity. - T. (QLD)

  • Bad things happen when good folk do nothing. - Patrick, 49 (QLD)

  • Human rights are the divine entitlement of every person by virtue of their very humanity. Protect! Coz you're just lucky to be born into freedom. - Lily, 21 (NSW)

  • Everyone is worthy of the right to live free from oppression, suffering and neglect. We share the responsibility of protecting one another and ensuring that others are treated as equals, with similar respect. - Phoebe & Jenny, 18 (VIC)

  • If we don't respect each other, who will??? - Zyna Jane (QLD)

  • I think we're all equal, so why don't we act it? - Ellen (SA)

  • I want to live in an Australia that respects those who are marginalised and struggle in today's society, and does everything possible to assist them towards a brighter future. Because I want to be proud to be an Australian. - Gemma (QLD)

Do you agree with these people? Or do you have something else to say or add? Send us your opinions, ideas and thoughts and have an impact on the decision about human rights protection in Australia.

Don't forget! If you haven't voted for the protection of Human Rights in Australia, it is not too late yet. Submission.

Sorry, commenting is no longer available in this weblog entry.

MAKE SOME NOISE

In 2009, Australians called loud and clear for a Human Rights Act. Help us remind Kevin Rudd what we told him by creating some buzz on Facebook and Twitter.
