Question 1: Which of these is an example of a microaggression?
Answer: c. Asking someone “where are you really from?”
While asking this question may not have bad intentions, asking “Where are you really from?” can be considered a microaggression because it implies that the person being asked doesn’t truly belong or isn’t a “real” member of the country or community they’re in.
This question often targets people who may not fit the stereotypical image of a citizen, such as People of Colour or those with non-Western names, suggesting that their ethnicity or appearance makes them outsiders.
Question 2: Which of these is an example of racial profiling?
Answer: b. Targeting individuals for searches based on their race or ethnicity.
Question 3: What is the purpose of affirmative action?
Answer: d. To help ease the effects of past discrimination by providing opportunities to historically marginalised groups.
Affirmative action was established to help counteract the long-standing effects of racial, gender, and ethnic discrimination. For generations, people from marginalised groups were excluded from educational and employment opportunities.
Affirmative action seeks to create a level playing field by giving these groups a fair chance. It does not take away opportunities from anyone, it just creates more.
Question 4: Why is representation in media important for combatting racism?
Answer: d. All of the above.
Question 5: How can racism manifest in the workplace?
Answer: a. Exclusion from professional networks due to race.
