Amnesty International Australia will be attending the 50th Labor National Conference from 23–25 July, asking delegates to urge the Australian Government to promote international accountability efforts, and act to stop Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in the Occupied West Bank.
The conference, which is expected to attract more than 2,000 attendees, is set to deliberate on the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. While Amnesty International Australia welcomes Labor’s stated opposition to illegal settlements and the annexation of Palestinian territory, delegates must commit to decisive action to uphold international law and defend the human rights of Palestinian Bedouin and herding communities in the West Bank.
Amnesty International Australia is calling on the conference to demand the government impose targeted sanctions on key Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for their role in leading the policy of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank.
Currently, Australia’s sanctions only target extremist elements, effectively supporting and providing cover for Israel’s disingenuous claim that the escalating West Bank violence and dispossession is the work of rogue elements. The clear evidence is that the escalating ethnic cleansing of the West Bank is a deliberate and supported policy of the Israeli Government.
Amnesty International is also calling on the Australian Government to support accountability through international legal mechanisms, ban trade, investment and assistance that contribute to Israel’s unlawful actions, halt the supply of defence materiel, and ensure Australian companies do not profit from Israel’s unlawful occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

“While delegates gather in Adelaide for the ALP National Conference, Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory continue to endure Israel’s unlawful, state-led and sponsored campaign of ethnic cleansing.
“Amnesty International’s research has documented settlement expansion, home demolitions, movement restrictions, and escalating settler violence carried out with state support and total impunity. These actions amount to the war crime of unlawful transfer and the crime against humanity of forcible transfer and further entrench Israel’s system of apartheid.
“The ALP National Conference presents a critical opportunity for Labor to demonstrate its commitment to international law and to support accountability for all crimes under international human rights and humanitarian law.
“The Australian Government has recognised Israel’s unlawful annexation of Palestinian territory. It is now time to match that recognition with concrete action to put an end to the cycle of impunity, ongoing injustice and human rights abuses faced by Palestinians.”

Amnesty International Australia’s Strategic Campaigns team will attend the ALP National Conference in Adelaide from 23–25 July, where they will host a conference stall and engage with delegates on key human rights priorities.
The team will advocate for Australia’s role in defending human rights across Amnesty International Australia’s key campaigns, including Indigenous youth justice, climate justice, and international human rights issues relating to China, Afghanistan, Myanmar and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They will share organisational perspectives and information on Amnesty’s ongoing advocacy efforts.
Public activities and billboards across Adelaide
Outside the conference, the team will also lead public actions from Thursday 23 July at 9:30am, with additional events taking place on Friday and Saturday, calling on the Australian Government to take action to prevent Israel’s ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. The action will feature a story wall comprising placards outlining the situation in the West Bank and Amnesty International’s findings from its 2026 report on ethnic cleansing.
Amnesty International Australia will also display billboards across Adelaide throughout the duration of the conference.
