Thank you for helping to protect the human rights of everyone in Australia! This morning, we handed over 50,000 signatures calling on the Government to legislate a Human Rights Act in Parliament.
Thanks to your support over the last few years, we’re closer than ever to a future where rights are realised, and where everyone is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. Because when human rights are at the heart of government laws, policies and practices, we create a fairer future.
The signatures on our petition calling for a Human Rights Act has shown the Albanese Government that there are tens of thousands of people from across the country who demand the tools to fight for their rights when they’re abused.
In 2023, over four thousand Amnesty supporters also emailed a Parliamentary Inquiry sharing their support and in a huge step forward for human rights, in 2024, the Inquiry recommended that Parliament legislate a Human Rights Act!
It’s now in the hands of the Albanese Government to accept this recommendation – and commit to creating a fairer future for everyone.
For years, Amnesty supporters have stood for their rights, contacting their MPs and calling on them to support a Human Rights Act.
It’s because of your commitment that Andrew Wilkie MP, Senator David Shoebridge, Monique Ryan MP, Sophie Scamps MP, Helen Haines MP, David Smith MP and Senator David Pocock attended the handover this morning at Parliament House.
